Highlights and new features
As advertised, Tine 2.0 got a broad telephony integration on the one hand, and was completely localized on the other hand.
The telephony integration consists of tree parts:
1. Asterisk Integration
Asterisk[7] is a wide spread open source telephony server. Tine 2.0 provides a web interface for easy administration and configuration of lines, mailboxes and MeetMe. Calls could be initiated by pressing the 'Click to dial' button in Tine 2.0s Address-Book.
2. Snom Telephone integration
Tine 2.0 got integration for the linux based Snom-Phones[8] of the 3xx series. This phones provide action-urls and a mini-browser. Based on this it's now possible to use the Tine 2.0 Address-Book directly from the phone. Moreover all received and dialed calls are recorded in the Tine 2.0 database an could be queried by the telephones owner. So calling back after a missed call is just a matter of a single click.
3. Administration of Snom Telephones
The Snom phoes of the 3xx series could be configured and administrated directly from the Tine 2.0 web-interface. This implies actions like updating firmware and configuring the internal settings of the phone. Moreover every user could adjust configuration setting like redirections or diplay-language for his own phone.
For the translation of the Software, Tine 2.0 chose the well established GNU gettext/xgettext schema which displite to others supports multiple plural forms. The release beta-version already comes with Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, English, German and Russian language support.
Performance of the Software got greatly improved by updating the base libraries to their latest versions, namely Zend-Framework version 1.6 and Ext-JS version 2.2.
Other Highlights could be found on the projects roadmap[5]. A full list of changes and bug-fixes is to be found in the changelog[6].
Proposed release-schedule
With the release of the first-beta version, Tine 2.0 now enters its release-phase for the summer 2008 version. This means, that only tests, bug-fixes and translations could be added to the version, but no new features.
The second beta version is scheduled for the 8'th of october. If no critical bugs are found in this second beta, the first release candidate will be released on the 15'th of october.
Reached Milestone 2 for the Summer Release 2008
Tine 2.0 Project Reached Milestone 2 for the Summer Release 2008
The Tine 2.0 project reached the second milestone[1] for the Summer 2008 release which is scheduled to be published in September 2008. Also the online demo got updated to this latest version.
Anyone is invited to download and test the packages build for this milestone, downloadable form the project page www.tine20.org. It has to be emphasized that these packages are of beta-quality intended for testing purpose only and not for productive service.
As advertised[2], filters got greatly enhanced and a activities logbook was implemented.
The new filters allow gradually addition of further search criterias within a consistent and easy user interface. In the normal view, the interface only consists of one row which looks like a well known search toolbar as it could be found for example in any browser. Due to the addition of further search criterias the user has the power to constrict his current list to gain e.g. a list of all his contacts within a given postal code range and a given tag.
The new activities logbook collects and stores all activities around a record, e.g. a single lead in the CRM module. On the one hand, this are auto-generated entries like 'User X changed selling probability to 70%'. On the other hand activities could also be added manually. The system distinguishes between notes, phone calls and emails.
Other Highlights could be found on the projects roadmap[1]. A full list of changes and bug-fixes is to be found in the changelog[3].
Passing the third milestone[4], Tine 2.0 agreed to be fully localised. According to the projects credo 'Use standards when ever possible', the solution will be based on the well established GNU gettext/xgettext schema and not use home brew solutions like many other projects in the web context.
Within the next milestone also the voipmanager will be released. This module allows to easily administrate and configure asterisk phone servers. Moreover it founds the basis for all features with telephony integration like the 'Click to dial' Button in the address book module.
A full list of scheduled enhancements could be found in the projects roadmap[4].
In September the release phase will be entered. If no major problems occur, there will be no packages of the third milestone, but with the passing it the first beta packages will be available.
Within the first beta packages, also the gettext templates will be published together with the community request to actively translate the software.
